The Return of CrossGen Comics

One of the biggest news stories coming out of Comic-Con 2010 for me was that Marvel Comics was teasing something to do with reviving CrossGen. Check out the video:

For those that don't know, CrossGen was a revolutionary company started in 1998 with four core titles with different genres: Sigil (sci-fi), Scion (medieval), Meridian (fable), and Mystic (fantasy/magic). The twist was that all the titles were somehow connected with the main characters interacting with a sigil, which was the CrossGen logo. CrossGen also revolutionized the comic industry by being one of the first companies to offer their comics online.

Fast forward to 2004 and the company goes bankrupt. The assets are picked up by Disney, but unfortunately, they don't do anything with the intellectual properties. However, afterwards, Disney buys out Marvel Comics and now they have a perfect vehicle to get some revamped CrossGen titles out.

In my opinion, the stories of the core titles were extremely strong. In fact, one of my favorite comics was Meridian, which was odd because it was kind of marketed for a younger female audience; however, the story was insanely good. I'm looking forward to seeing what Marvel will come up with for these comics and whether or not they will continue the core titles or come up with new ones. I'll be keeping my eye out!
